Casino withdrawal pending: what each stage means

A withdrawal that says "pending" is in one of four places, and only two of those are in the casino's control. We provide a dissection of the withdrawal stages, review the withdrawal pages of the ten casinos we review, and determine when it is appropriate to contact the casino and when it is appropriate to contact the bank, as well as what to request when contacting either.

What "pending" actually means

All withdrawals take place in two phases, via two systems. Phase one is the casino system, from the time you request the withdrawal until the casino releases the funds to the payment system. Phase two is the payment system, from the time the casino releases the funds to the customer account. The word "pending" describes phase one, and the casino's pages are very careful to distinguish phase one from phase two.

MrQ, with the claim of processing requests the fastest of the ten, makes it clear: "The guarantee covers our processing time, not how long your bank takes to receive the money." Monopoly Casino's status list says similarly in a word: "Requested: Your withdrawal has not yet been processed by us." LiveScore clarifies on the balance: "When you request a withdrawal, the funds will leave your account balance and the transaction will show as 'Pending'. From there it can take up to 24 hours for the funds to be processed."

A "pending withdrawal" is money that has left your balance and is waiting to be processed by the casino. It can never be returned nor lost. It cannot be cancelled at any of the casinos mentioned. The length of time a withdrawal is "pending" is dependent on the stage it is in.

Gold stopwatch on a sapphire base: the four timed stages of a casino withdrawal

The four stages of a withdrawal

All of the casinos on this list have the same stages, but under different names. Being aware of the stage you are in allows you to know whose time you are waiting on.

  1. Requested. Money is confirmed to be withdrawn and is taken from the balance. This is the only stage where a casino with a closed-loop rule can send a request back for an incorrect payment method.
  2. Reviewed. The payments team runs its checks. MrQ refers to these checks as "payment checks, security checks, verification checks". BetVictor: "Approval can take up to 24 hours due to compliance and security checks." NetBet: a request "is checked and validated by one of our agents within up to five hours, provided no additional documents are required from your end." For all intents and purposes, the process stops if further documentation is required.
  3. Released. The casino sends the money. Monopoly refers to this as "Processed: Your funds have been processed by us, but it has not yet been received by your payment provider." Beyond this point, the casino's role is complete, and the time that follows is the rail's: instant for Pay by Bank and PayPal, hours for Visa Direct, working days for a standard card or BACS.
  4. Cleared. Your bank posts the credit. Monopoly's word is "Successful", LiveScore's is "Confirmed", MrQ's is "Complete". If the payment is declined by the bank, the money is returned to your casino balance and you are notified by email.

The status names, casino by casino

Only some casinos name their stages. Where a casino publishes no status vocabulary, the row indicates what it shows.

CasinoStatus names it usesWhat each means, in its own words
Monopoly CasinoRequested, Processed, Successful, Failed"Requested: Your withdrawal has not yet been processed by us. Processed: Your funds have been processed by us, but it has not yet been received by your payment provider. Successful: This means your payment provider's automated systems have received the funds and they will be in your available balance soon."
MrQProcessing, Complete, Unable to be processed"Processing: your withdrawal is still being reviewed. Complete: the withdrawal has been sent. Unable to be processed: there was an issue and you'll need to contact us."

Sky Vegas, Paddy Power, BetVictor, NetBetNo names publishedSky and Paddy Power say the same thing in the same words: "Whether the withdrawal is successful or not, you will be advised at this point." BetVictor gives timescales per method; NetBet points to the cashier.

Casino withdrawal pending times at all ten casinos

Processing is the casino's own clock. The two routes are the fastest and slowest the casino publishes for the rail after release. "Chase after" is the casino's instruction on when to contact them.

The spread in the "casino processing" column is telling. MrQ's withdrawals take seconds, NetBet and Monopoly take hours, while BetVictor and LiveScore take a day. Four casinos have not published withdrawal times. Our list of fast withdrawal casinos ranks the same ten casinos on that column. We have included the minimums and fees in the list as well.

Why a withdrawal is held at the review stage

When a withdrawal is in the "reviewed" status beyond a casino's published figure, one of six common reasons usually applies. All these reasons are documented on the casinos' own pages.

Verification Verification outstanding The commonest hold. LiveScore: "If your account has unverified documents or pending Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, your withdrawal will be blocked until verification is complete." MrQ says a request "may be held until those checks are complete", and our bank statement guide covers what to send.
Closed loop The closed loop Money goes back to the method it came from. LiveScore: "you must withdraw funds back to the payment method with the highest positive net deposit." Sky works out a net-deposit figure per method the same way. Pick another card and the request is declined at stage one.
Bonus Bonus wagering unfinished BetMGM: "If you are looking to withdraw bonus funds, please ensure you have met the wagering requirement for the offer before starting the withdrawal process." LiveScore lets you withdraw only if you "aren't bound by bonus wagering requirements".
Rejected Rejected by the bank LiveScore: "Some banks or services do not accept funds from gambling sites, which can result in the withdrawal being rejected." NetBet names NatWest and RBS cards. Prepaid cards "may only support deposits". The money returns to your balance.
Third party Someone else's method Monopoly: "If a withdrawal is requested to a third-party payment method (for example, a card or bank account belonging to someone else), we won't be able to process it automatically." BetMGM's access page treats third-party and business accounts as an anti-money-laundering matter.
Minimum Under the minimum £10 at MrQ, Monopoly and NetBet, £5 at Sky, LiveScore and BetVictor. Below it, the button does nothing. BetVictor and LiveScore both say support can push through a balance under the minimum by hand.

A seventh reason is unrelated to the others, an unspent deposit. BetVictor's terms state that "If funds are deposited and not used before a withdrawal is requested", the casino may ask for documents, run full identification checks and "request reimbursement of any merchant charges incurred". Depositing and immediately withdrawing looks like card testing to a payments team, and it is dealt with as such.

Weekends and bank holidays

Casinos work over weekends, whereas most banks do not, and many complaints that withdrawals are "still pending on Monday" are usually Friday requests that sat in a hold until the following working day.

"Over the weekend it can often take our payment provider a little while to update your payment status, and as a result of this, your withdrawal may show as 'Requested' for longer than usual. Rest assured, our team are processing withdrawals as normal, and your money should be with you in the normal timeframe. For bank withdrawals, this means your transaction will clear at around 9-10am on the next working day (usually Monday)."

Monopoly Casino, Why does my withdrawal still appear as 'Requested'?

BetVictor states with bluntness that bank transfers requested "on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday will be processed on Monday, once banks are open". Sky and LiveScore both include bank holidays in their count of working days, with Sky saying "these are not working days" and LiveScore saying "banks only process payments on working days". Monopoly's response when asked if bank holidays affect withdrawals is "Yes, if you have withdrawn via card or bank", with the promise that such transactions "will clear within 3 working days once processed".

The routes that disregard weekends are the instant routes: Pay by Bank at Sky and Paddy Power, PayPal and Apple Pay at LiveScore, instant bank transfer and Visa Direct at MrQ, NetBet's promise of one to five hours on every option, and Coral's Visa Fast Funds, which "get processed 24hrs a day, 7 days a week. This means you will also receive your funds into your bank account over the weekend". If the withdrawal has to reach the destination before Monday, the method has a greater importance than the casino.

Who to chase, and when

MrQ justifies the futility of chasing by saying "contacting support repeatedly will not expedite the process." Timing the request correctly, and with the right reference, does have its effect.

  1. Check the status first. If it says Processed, Complete or Confirmed, the casino has sent the money and you are waiting on the bank. Monopoly: "if your payment is showing as 'Processed' on your payment history then we have sent the money to your bank." So, if it is still showing Processing or Requested, you can contact the casino.
  2. Wait for the time the casino states. MrQ says to contact them "if there's still no update after 2 working days". BetVictor says call after 24 hours with the "Time and date of the transaction" and the amount. BetMGM says "after 3 working days". Sky, LiveScore and Monopoly all say five working days.
  3. If they request it, bring the statement. LiveScore's finance team asks for "An unedited bank statement covering: Up to 3 weeks prior to the transaction date, At least 1 week after the withdrawal date" so they can "cross-check your deposit and withdrawal records".
  4. Ask for the ARN. An Acquirer Reference Number is a 16-digit code that the banking system associates with a card payment. Sky: "You can take this 16-digit number to your bank, and they can use it to locate your funds. We are unable to provide you with an ARN until 5 working days have passed." Paddy Power says they will have it "within 24 hours" of the request. For what to do with it, LiveScore says to "speak to your bank's Fraud or Payments team (not general customer service)".
  5. Pursue a complaint. If the casino has not responded during the timeframe and not provided a reason, that would be valid grounds for a complaint, which has eight weeks to resolve, with an independent decision maker positioned after that. Our guide for what to do when a casino won't pay out outlines the process.

None of the casinos will speed up the verification checks on request. MrQ's help centre confirms that support agents "cannot expedite or influence the process", and Monopoly asks you to "avoid contacting us to chase the review". The best way to minimise this waiting period is to send exactly what the email requests in a single message.

Prize wins and the pending stage

A win from a free daily spin goes through this same process, with one extra step added before the four stages: the cash prize needs to be credited to the player's account in the first place.

When the casino says the prize is cash, that step is instant. Monopoly on its free spins: "Any winnings from Free Spins are credited to your account as cash. Once credited, you can withdraw your winnings via the Withdrawal page, subject to standard checks." MrQ on bingo prizes: "When you win, the money goes straight into your cash balance. There's no wagering requirement." LiveScore says of its Daily Free Game wins that "we have no restrictions on these wins", however, free spins won there "can take up to 72 hours" to be added to the account. That 72 hours is not a withdrawal delay, it is the period before there is anything to withdraw.

The second thing prize wins meet is the minimum. A £4 win at a casino with a £10 floor cannot be withdrawn on its own, which is why the minimums column matters more for daily prizes than for anything else. Our guide to withdrawing free spins winnings researches the caps and the wagering terms of each casino, and our fast withdrawal casinos list shows which of the ten pays the smallest wins fastest.

Watching a withdrawal sit at pending is when the urge to cancel it and play on is strongest, which is exactly why UK casinos no longer let you. If the wait is making you anxious about money rather than impatient, that is worth a conversation with GamCare before the next deposit.
